A Veterinary Career Years in the Making
For Bec, working in the veterinary industry was always meant to be.
Growing up in a family deeply connected to science and medicine, a fascination with biology developed from a young age. With a mother who studied biology and a father and extended family working in science and human healthcare, the path toward veterinary medicine felt like a natural fit.
That passion was further cemented during high school work placements at various local veterinary surgeries, including Scarborough Veterinary Surgery in 2000 and 2001.
“Those experiences confirmed that veterinary medicine was exactly where I wanted to be.”
After raising a family, Bec officially began her veterinary career in 2014 and returned to where it all started—Scarborough Veterinary Surgery.
Meet the Pets at Home
Like many members of our veterinary team, life outside the clinic revolves around animals too.
At home, she shares her life with a mischievous Manx cat named Huxley and four chickens with wonderfully memorable names: Maureen, Winnifred, Freida, and Lady Cleopatrick McNugget.
These beloved pets provide plenty of entertainment and remind us why caring for animals is such a rewarding profession.
Why the Redcliffe Peninsula Community Means So Much
One of the most rewarding parts of working at Scarborough Veterinary Surgery is being part of the local community.
Living on the Redcliffe Peninsula for most of her life has created strong connections with local families and their pets. One of her favourite moments is seeing canine patients out and about around the peninsula and having them happily recognise her.
“When our patients are excited to see us outside the clinic, it reinforces that our low-stress, fear-free approach is making a real difference.”
Supporting local businesses is also something Bec feels strongly about. Whenever possible, Scarborough Veterinary Surgery works with other local businesses, helping strengthen the community we all call home.
Advice for Every Pet Owner
When asked what she wishes every pet owner knew, the answer is simple:
“It’s okay to ask questions—and there are no silly questions.”

Favourite Animals? It’s a Tie!
While she loves all animals, two species stand out as personal favourites: angler fish and cassowaries.
Although they couldn’t be more different, both are fascinating examples of nature’s incredible diversity. From the unique adaptations of angler fish in the deep ocean to the prehistoric appearance and remarkable biology of cassowaries, they never fail to spark curiosity and admiration.
